About the event

According to Drag Story Hour, the idea of Drag Story Time “was created by Michelle Tea and RADAR Productions, under the leadership of Julián Delgado Lopera and Virgie Tovar, in San Francisco in 2015. It started out as drag artists reading stories to children in libraries and grew into a global phenomenon.”

What is it? Storytellers using the art of drag to read books to kids in libraries, schools, and bookstores.

In the eight years since it’s inception, however, Drag Story Time events across the globe have been the target of hateful criticism, the most vocal of whom, according to CBC, are members of alt-right groups. Over the years there have been numerous violent events targeted at 2SLGBTQAI+ night clubs and citizens.

Join Sarnia Speaks, in partnership with Diversity Ed, on Wednesday, February 8, 2022 at the Sarnia Library Theatre as we hear the stories of those who deliver and participate in Drag Storytime.
